Skiable Area: 500 sprawling acres covering Whitecap, Thunderhead & Eagles Nest mountains in the ancient Penokee Range overlooking Lake Superior's South Shore -- plus the Bunny Hill & rope tow; and the Polar Bear Bowl with Magic Carpet Lift for our littlest skiing friends.
Trails/Runs Open: None ... but 18 holes of golf to enjoy during warm weather.
Lifts Open: None. The Whitecap Mountains have a high volume lift capacity meaning no long lines -- you spend your time doing what you came to do: skiing and snowboarding!

Besides the Village Center, folks like to warm up in The Wine Hut at the base of Thunderhead Mountain..
Our famous Wine Hut is a great place to warm up.

 

Just a bit more than 4 hours from Minneapolis, 5 from Milwaukee or 6.5 from Chicago, The Whitecap Mountains are easy to reach.

Shortcuts to Whitecap Mountains:

1.) East-bound on U.S. Highway 2, (From Ashland, Duluth, those coming north on I-35 and other points west) turn right on Wisconsin Highway 122 at Saxon. As you drive south you'll curve around the back side of the mountain. Cross the highway to your left when you reach Iron County Road E. Follow E to our driveway on your left.

2.)
Northeast-bound on Wisconsin Highway 77, (From Hayward, the Twin Cities and points southwest) turn left on Wisconsin Highway 122 at the town of Upson. Go north about a mile and a half and then take a right on Iron County Highway E. Follow E to our driveway on your left.

3.)
If you're North-bound on U.S. Highway 51 - or West-bound on U.S. Highway 2 (business route from Ironwood), (From Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Wausau, Stevens Point, Michigan's Upper Peninsula) In downtown Hurley go west on World Famous Silver Street, which is also Wisconsin Highway 77. Follow Highway 77 through the town of Iron Belt, then take a right on Iron County Highway E. Follow E to our driveway - on your right - just after the hairpin turn at Weber Lake County Park.

4.) Shortcut from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis & St. Paul and metro Minnesota, drive north on I-35. Exit at Minnesota Highway 70, going east. That becomes Wisconsin Highway 70 as you continue east to to Spooner where you turn north on Highway 63. As you're passing through Hayward, turn east on Wisconsin Highway 77. When you reach the little town of Clam Lake, take a left (then a quick right in about a block) on County Highway GG to Mellen. When you're in downtown Mellen, take a right to go down the hill. Then turn left to continue traveling eastward on Wisconsin Highway 77. When you reach Upson, follow shortcut #2 above.
