The big Village Center offers plenty of places to warm up; from wide open spaces to a nice lounge & 3 restaurants.

Discover three mountains and forty-three master-designed ski runs and trails spread over a vast 500 acres within the ancient Penokee Mountains. The terrain has been developed by the Lundberg family for more than 42 years to give you the best skiing and snowboarding experience possible in the Midwest.

There are challenging double-diamond trails carved from these mountains to challenge the advanced skier. Great care is taken to make sure your advanced skiing experience will be the best possible; including making new snow for these runs each night that Mother Nature hasn't done the job.

Many folks tell us that The Whitecap Mountains are the best place to come when those skiers and boarders want to brush up their skills before heading out west for a winter vacation. A weekend or two on The Whitecap Mountains' advanced black diamonds and expert double diamonds make their annual ski trip out west much more fun.

Yet at Whitecap we cater to all skill levels. So you'll find intermediate and beginner runs that are more fun than average. Our blue and green trails give skiers and snowboarders a mountain experience, too. Just because you're not the most advanced skier doesn't mean you want to be going up and down the same side of one hill all day! And at Whitecap you don't have to.

Another thing that makes The Whitecap Mountains unique is that our training slopes and beginners area are removed from the main ski traffic. Whether it's the Polar Bear Bowl with the Magic Carpet Lift for the littlest skiers or the Bunny Hill with rope tow, those skiers are in their own area removed from the elements and the main ski traffic so that there's more fun and less risk of beginners crossing paths with advanced skiers.

You will find an incredible variety of options for every skiing ability. So schuss down into the land of the Grindelwald or dance playfully over the bumps of Kilimanjaro.

Ski Magazine reports "...among the Midwest ski resorts the Whitecap terrain and trail system is most like the mountains." Whitecap truly offers a western mountain skiing experience at a fraction of the cost.

Six chairlifts (including a triple and a quad), the special Magic Carpet Lift for beginners in our Polar Bear Bowl, and the tow rope on the Bunny Hill can carry more than 6,000 skiers per hour. Whitecap's lift capacity means not wasting time in lift lines or missing the morning powder

Whitecap's unique layout - spread in all directions over three unique mountain peaks and 500 acres of fantastic terrain - means that even on the busiest weekends you won't ever feel crowded. Our lodging units and parking lots can be full ... but you'll still have plenty of room for great fun in the snow on these mountains!

Pick up a trail map at the lift ticket window. You will find that it comes in handy when you're out of sight from the main chalet on Whitecap, Thunderhead and Eagles Nest mountains. The Whitecap Mountains' forty-three runs spread across three mountains are not like those little ski areas where you go up and down the same side of a hill all day! You get out into the wilderness of Lake Superior's South Shore.

As mentioned, many of our advanced skiers swear by our layout & terrain as being the best place to brush up your skills before heading to the mountains out west - or just for the best family ski and snowboard experience in the Midwest.
